Part 1: Thursday Oct. 3, 2019 – 4-6pm
Part 2: Thursday Oct. 10, 2019 – 4-6pm
Join teaching artist Janice Liu of Young Artists' Place (youngartistsplace.com) at the Metrotown Library for a Manga Art workshop. Manga broadly refers to Japanese comics, or any comics or illustration inspired by the distinctive art style of Japanese comic creators. Participants in this two-part workshop will first design their own original manga characters, and learn how to draw the proportions of the human body from the front, side, and 3/4 view. Then, we'll create our own comics featuring those characters!
Janice Liu is the artist and co-creator of the children's graphic novel Chicken Soup & Goji Berries 中药鸡汤. Her comic shorts have been published in various teen & literary magazines, and in the comic anthology Wayward Sisters: An Anthology of Monstrous Women. Janice has been teaching art since 2013, and is the owner and teaching artist at Young Artists' Place in Burnaby, where she runs art & comics classes. She is also a creative writing and comics instructor at Place des Arts in Coquitlam.
Registration opens on Monday Sept. 16, 2019. This program will be held on the 2nd floor of the Bob Prittie (Metrotown) branch in the multipurpose room.
This program has two sessions. To register for this program you must be available for Part 2. Registering for Part 1 automatically registers you for Part 2.
