Burnaby Neighbourhood speaker series: The Fecundity of Food and Family, A Natural Niche for Chinese Canadians in Burnaby

Tuesday, October 20
7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Explore a range of historical and cultural topics by local speakers through the Burnaby Neighbourhood History series online via Zoom or Facebook Live. Community members are invited to bring and ask questions of the speakers during these interactive sessions. Presented in partnership by Burnaby Village Museum and UBC Initiative for Student Teaching and Research in Chinese Canadian Studies. This free online event requires access to internet and Zoom or Facebook.

Learn from four UBC students about their research on Chinese Canadian involvement in food and farming in early Burnaby. Be inspired by how they responded to the pandemic this Spring, which launched them unexpectedly into developing a series of new online resources for Burnaby Village Museum. Hear how their research has deepened our knowledge of Burnaby’s Chinese Canadians, and what this exciting experience has meant to them as budding researchers. Presented by UBC students and graduates of ACAM 390A and HIST 482: The Heritage of Chinese Migration.

Register online, at any branch, or call 604-436-5400. A link and password to join the Zoom Meeting will be sent by email.
