Kevin Chong will read from his latest book, The Plague, and speak about how he came to retell Albert Camus’ famous 1947 novel, La Peste, with events updated and set in a near future Vancouver.

“Inspired by Albert Camus' classic 1947 novel, Kevin Chong's The Plague follows a doctor’s attempts to fight the treatment-resistant disease and find meaning in suffering. Told with dark humour and an eye trained on the frailties of human behaviour, Chong's novel explores themes of heroism in the face of futility, the psychological strain of quarantine--but fraught with the political and cultural anxieties of our present day.” - Publisher

Kevin Chong studied at University of British Columbia and has an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University in New York City. Chong has published six books of fiction and non-fiction and The Plague is his latest novel. He teaches creative writing at UBC and the Writer’s Studio at SFU.
