Directions

The library is located on the north side of Kingsway, just west of Edmonds Street. Take the Millennium or Expo line to Edmonds station, or take the 106, 112, 129 or N19 bus. Free parking is available underground. Enter the parking garage off Arcola Street, which is off Walker Street. Please note, there is no access to the parkade outside library hours.

Internet access

Wireless Internet access is available at all branches of the Burnaby Public Library. Tommy Douglas has 34 public Internet terminals, including 12 in the computer lab, four 15-minute express stations and six children's Internet terminals. All PCs have Microsoft Office 2007 installed, and have DVD/CD-RW drives and USB ports.

Computer lab

The Tommy Douglas computer lab has 12 public Internet terminals. All PCs have Microsoft Office 2007 and have DVD/CD-RW drives and USB ports.

There is no charge for use of the lab, except for printing. There is a lab attendant on duty to assist patrons during the following hours:

Tuesday 12pm to 5pm
Wednesday 3pm to 8pm
Thursday 12pm to 5pm
Friday 3pm to 8pm
Saturday 12pm to 5pm

The Tommy Douglas computer lab was made possible by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Industry Canada's Community Access Program and a Province of BC Community Spirit grant.

Computer classes

Tommy Douglas occasionally offers basic computer classes in the computer lab. Each class is usually one two-hour session, and is led by a BPL librarian.

ESL classes

ESL classes are provided by the VCC Outreach Centre. For more information, visit VCC Learning Centres in Libraries online, or contact the centre at 604-871-7277.

Drop-in classes take place:

  • Tuesdays, 10am to 3pm
  • Wednesdays and Thursdays 3:30pm to 8:30pm
  • Fridays 1pm to 8:30pm
  • Saturdays 10am to 2pm
