Saturday, August 27
9:00 am to 11:00 am

Start your Saturday off right with a walk around Cameron Park to look for birds. You may see hummingbirds, thrushes, warblers, flycatchers and more. BPL librarian and experienced birder Neill Vanhinsberg will lead the group and give tips on viewing birds in Burnaby parks.

Bring your own binoculars and meet at the dragon in Cameron Park (located near Cameron Street). The walk may include stairs and cover a long distance. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring any walking aids needed. Registration required online or by phone (604-421-5454). Event is weather permitting and subject to change.

Obsessed with Star Wars? Use the force and join this epic book club. Read the “The Strange Case of Origami Yoda” and make some Jedi inspired crafts. Here’s how it works:

  1. Register for the book club online or at the information desk. Pick up a copy of the book at the Cameron information desk; bring a confirmation of your registration.
  2. READ THE BOOK!!! (You must read the book before coming to the book club; in fact you should get your parents to read the book too!)
  3. Meet at the Pop-Up Library and attend the Book Club on August 31 from 2:30pm to 4:00 pm.

Space is limited and registration is required for this free program.

Are you a Chaser, a Beater, a Keeper, or a Seeker? Learn to play Harry Potter’s favorite sport, quidditch, with the Vancouver Vipertooths’ community quidditch team!

1:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Calling all builders! Kids ages 4 and up are invited to drop in anytime between 1:30pm and 4:30pm to play with the library's extensive LEGO collection. Moms and dads can join the fun too!

No registration required. Come early: space is limited.

Adults must accompany children younger than 10.

Join us for the Medal Award Ceremony and Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, September 10 in Burnaby Civic Square, outside Bob Prittie Metrotown! All library branch patrons welcome!

Every Summer Reading Club member who reads, or is read to, for 50 days earns this year's Summer Reading Club medal. Medal winners from all BPL branches are welcome to attend.

The breakfast is from 8:30am to 11:00am (tickets in advance or at the door). There will also be free entertainment and activities from 9:00am to 10:45am, and the medal ceremony begins at 11:00am. 

And watch for an exciting new event, the BIG Birthday Bash, in the afternoon of September 10 to celebrate our 60th anniversary!
