This discussion based supportive series is for anyone who has ever wanted to talk about the job of parenting in a small group setting with other parents. Topics covered will be tailored to the specific needs of the participants. Some examples of topics covered are: managing temper tantrums, discipline vs. punishment, parent emotions, coping with the stress, and parent self-care. The goal of this series is to provide an opportunity for parents of young children to discuss their concerns and share their successes and challenges in a safe and supportive environment.

Parenting Toddlers and Pre-schoolers

In this interactive series, the focus is on understanding the unique challenges parents of children under age 5 encounter as their children move through the toddler and preschool years. Topics include but are not limited to: effective communication, the link between behaviour and temperament, understanding child development, having appropriate behavioral expectations, and responding to children’s misbehaviour in ways that promote growth and self regulation. Responding to temper tantrums, coping with separation anxiety, teaching social skills such as sharing and turn taking are a few examples of topics that can be included.

Reading Buddies is a program where children are paired up with teen mentors in a safe, fun and friendly environment. The goals of this program are to provide children with extra reading practice and to provide teens with leadership skills and an opportunity to engage with community.


Children must be in grade 2, 3 or 4. Registered children must attend all five sessions, Tuesdays February 7 to March 7 from 4:15 to 5:00pm. Register in person or over the phone at McGill branch, located at 4595 Albert Street. The program is free, but space is limited, so be sure to register early. Registration opens Tuesday, January 17.
