Learn how you can recycle a broken computer and help the environment, earn a free computer by volunteering, or buy a refurbished computer for as little as $25.
Free Geek Vancouver is a nonprofit community organisation that reduces the environmental impact of waste electronics by reusing and recycling donated technology.
At Free Geek, volunteers learn valuable technology skills as they rebuild computers – no experience necessary, and teens can volunteer too! The refurbished computers, installed with open-source software, are then earned by the volunteers (after 24 hours of service), sold at low cost to the community, or donated to local non-profit organizations.
***Important note: This event is an *INFORMATION SESSION ONLY*. Please DO NOT bring computers for recycling or repair.***
Many computers contain hazardous materials that leak toxins when dumped in landfills. Some technology “recyclers” merely ship their e-waste overseas. Free Geek is the only organization in British Columbia to earn the international e-Steward Certification by following the most rigorous criteria for sustainable and socially-just electronics recycling. Free Geek Vancouver is one of ten official Free Geek organizations in North America, and the only one in Canada.
Free Geek Vancouver will speak about their innovative, eco-friendly and socially-responsible solutions. Free presentation but space is limited. Register online or call 604-299-8955.
