Have you ever wondered about the differences between writing novels and television scripts? Join local award-winning writer Susin Nielsen for a lively exploration of the challenges and joys in writing each genre. Find out how a TV script is formatted versus a book, see a clip from one of Susin’s shows and have a chance to do a bit of acting! Susin will also talk about her own journey to becoming a writer, and will read short excerpts from her teen novels Word Nerd and Dear George Clooney, Please Marry My Mom.

Susin Nielsen wrote 16 episodes of Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High and four of the novels in the Degrassi book series. She’s also written for many well-received TV series including Ready or Not, Madison, The Adventures of Shirley Holmes, Edgemont, Heartland and Robson Arms. Nielsen also adapted Alice, I Think for television, a half-hour comedy series based on the best-selling teen novels by Susan Juby. Along with her two YA novels, she’s also written three picture books.
