Burnaby Reads

Winning photos as well as runners-up and honourable mentions from the Burnaby Reads Photo Contest are on display at Bob Prittie Metrotown, now through March 22, 2010.

The Burnaby Reads photo contest drew more than 125 entries illustrating the many ways people in Burnaby read, everyday. $100 cash prizes were presented to the winners in each of the eight contest categories on Saturday, December 5 at the new Tommy Douglas Library.

Winners by category were: Most Comfortable, Akiko Sugita; Most Humourous, Betty Tse; Most Multicultural, Barry Shell; Most Neighbourly, Miriam Moses; Most Recognizable, Amanda Chan; Most Scenic, Zhang Jing Chaun; Most Unusual and Most Urban, Jenni Madison.

Runners up by category were: Most Comfortable, Ian Robertson and Jenni Madision; Most Humourous, Lynda Kerr; Most Multicultural, Jenni Madison; Most Neighbourly, Joanne Tong; Most Recognizable, Ian Robertson and Kit Yan Tan; Most Scenic, Melissa Lee and Lynda Kerr; Most Unusual, Kevin Gillen and Amanda Chor; Most Urban, Valeriya Zhmak and Christina Lee.

Honourable mentions were awarded in two categories: Most Comfortable, Kate Hanson and Most Recognizable, Zhang Jing Chaun.

The contest was sponsored by Literacy Now Burnaby as part of the Burnaby Reads celebrations held in September. Literacy Now Burnaby, in partnerships with many organizations, raises awareness of the importance of literacy as a foundation skill for lifelong learning. In partnerships with Literacy Now, it supports literacy programs in Burnaby.
