BPL is big enough to give you opportunities to advance your skills, knowledge and career, yet small enough for you to know your colleagues in all four branches.
At BPL, you could be a member of a committed team of professional librarians and clerical staff who:
Librarians must possess a master's degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited university. Librarians at BPL can be involved in collection management, information assistance, readers’ advisory, programming, planning and cataloguing as well as participating in community events. Librarian duties may also include the supervision of other staff.
Library clerks must have completed the 12th school grade, preferably supplemented by commercial courses. Library clerks can work in a variety of positions. These can include working on a public information desk, working in a circulation department, processing new materials in our acquisitions and cataloguing departments, providing delivery service to patrons who are confined to home, and carrying out various administrative duties.
Library pages shelve returned library materials and keep all items in order on the shelves. They also tidy the library by ensuring that all materials left by library users on tables, desks and chairs, etc. are gathered and returned to the proper areas.
Building service workers must have completed the eighth school grade. Completion of a building service worker course is preferred. A valid BC driver’s licence is required. Building service workers' duties include janitorial and minor maintenance work related to the building and grounds of a branch library. On occasion they may also be required to drive a delivery vehicle.
